Yıldız Holding’s ‘2018 Stars of the Year’ competition recognised best business practices that deliver efficiency. Reaching 105 applications in nine categories from Yıldız Holding companies from all around the world, the competing projects enabled Yıldız Holding to save on costs in the neighbourhood of 900 million Turkish Liras.

The rewards were handed out on 24 February 2019 at the Ülker Sports and Event Hall. The awards ceremony hosted Yıldız Holding’s Chairman Murat Ülker, Vice Chairman Ali Ülker, CEO Mehmet Tütüncü and various other senior managers as well as leading figures from business and civil society. Salman Amin, CEO, pladis, delivered a speech at the ceremony while GODIVA’s CEO Annie Young Scrivner gave a video message.

The Stars of the Year Awards, which rewards best practices across Yıldız Holding group companies, was held for the 10th time round this year. Starting off with only 39 projects in 2008, a total of 154 projects competed in the 2017 Stars of the Year Awards, delivering a cost advantage to Yıldız Holding in the neighbourhood of 154 million US dollars.

This year’s Chairman’s Award, given by Yıldız Holding’s Chairman Murat Ülker in a different category each year, went to ‘Zero Occupational Accidents’. “As far as success criteria go, there’s nothing more important to me than the health and safety of our employees at Yıldız Holding. The only acceptable goal for me is to achieve ‘ZERO OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENTS’. We all need to focus our work on occupational safety and share our best practices with colleagues to set an example and encourage them,” said Murat Ülker.

A total of 82 projects in five categories competed in the 2015 Stars of the Year Awards, which honours successful projects implemented by Yıldız Holding employees. The 15 projects that were shortlisted provided a cost advantage to Yıldız Holding reaching nearly 60 million USD in 2015.

The following projects evaluated by the expert and principal panel comprised of Yıldız Holding Executives and voted for by employees won the grand awards: “9 Kat Tat Cube Wafers” in the Contribution to Growth category; “Mobiliz.Biz” in the Innovation category; “Halley” in the Cost Advantage category; “, “Yıldız Energy Movement on the Road to Excellence” in the Operational Excellence category; and, “Climate Change at Ülker Chocolate Topkapı” in the Values category.

A total of 136 innovative projects competed in the 2014 Stars of the Year Awards. Presented in five categories, the awards made a financial contribution to Yıldız Holding reaching nearly 45 million USD in 2014.

In the 2014 awards, team projects were evaluated and a total of five grand prizes were awarded. The Stars of the Year competition received 136 project applications in total. As a result of the shortlisted projects by the panel and employee votes, the following projects were recognised: “Ülker Saklıköy” in the Contribution to Growth category; Pasifik Gıda’s “B.I.Z.” project in the Values category; “O’lala” in the Innovation category; Azmüsebat’s “35% Steel Efficiency” project in the Cost Advantage category; and, Ülker Çikolata “Integral Excellence” project in the Operational Excellence category.

The 2013 Stars of the Year competition was open to projects that were implemented. A total of five grand awards and one special award were presented. Out of the 125 projects that competed, 15 projects were shortlisted. These projects made a contribution of around 7 million USD to Yıldız Holding.

As a result of the panel’s evaluations and internal voting, the winning projects were: Hüner Pazarlama’s “In-Store Excellence” in the Contribution to Growth category; Sabri Ülker Food Research Foundation’s “Balanced Nutrition” project in the Values category; “Ülker Laviva” in the Innovation category; Şok Market’s “Mixed Loading Model” project in the Cost Advantage category; and, Pasifik Pazarlama’s “Orders, Delivery, Regulation and Exposure” project in the Operational Excellence category. The Jury Special Award went to Kümaş for its project “Pilot Plant and Industrial Scale for Magnesite Ore Enrichment Using Chemical Methods”.

In the fifth year of the Stars of the Year, best practices developed by employees in Yıldız Holding and its affiliates competed for the awards. A total of 37 projects applied for the awards; 5 grand awards and 2 special awards were presented to the winners.

The following projects won the grand prize in the relevant categories: Bizim Toptan’s CRM project in the Contribution to Growth category; the “Eurex Alimentare Tempo de Lala Band Campaign” in the Values category; Ülker’s “Metrocycle” in the Innovation category; Şok Market’s “Information Systems Integration” project in the Cost Advantage category; and, Ak Gıda’s “Anaerobic Refining Project” project in the Operational Excellence category. This year’s Jury Special Award went to Teközel for the Best Values Launch, while Örgen Gıda won the Food Safety Special Award.

A total of 45 projects competed in the fourth year of the Stars of the Year. The following projects won in the respective categories: the Human Resources Department and Sales Team for their “Sales Rep Recruitment Process” project in the Values category; Farmamak Polterm’s “C-PET Food Containers Resistant to -40°C and 200°C” Innovation category; CCC’s “Big Pack” project in the Contribution to Growth category; and, Ülker International Marketing’s “360 Ramadan MENA” project in the Cost Advantage category.

A total of 60 project applied to the 2010 Stars of the Year event which received applications from international operations for the first time ever. At the end of the two-phase evaluation 10 projects were shortlisted. The winner was the “ulkermedya.com – Corporate Media Portal” designed by the Marketing Services Team under the Supply Chain and Procurement Department. The “Scope – Visual Scheduling and Optimisation” project developed by Polinas came in second place, while Ülker Biscuits and Food Manufacturers Company (Saudi Arabia) shared third place with the “Chocolate Petit Beurre Project” and “Packaging Material Cost Minimisation Project”, respectively.

In 2009, in the second year of the award platform open to all Yıldız Holding companies, a total of 38 project competed in the 2009 Stars of the Year. Out of the nine projects that were shortlisted following the preliminary evaluation four projects received awards, one of which was the special jury award. The winner of the Stars of the Year award was the “Top Offers Page” project designed by the Commercial and Media Team. Second in line was the “Alpella Ole Digital Launch” project developed by the Dairy Products Team, Food and Beverage Group, while Önem Gıda’s “Hazelnut Paste Manufacturing Plant Continuous Purée Pasteurisation System” project came in third place. The special jury award went to Datateknik’s “Exper Uninterrupted PC” project.

The Stars of the Year event was organised for the first time in 2008 with a view to mainstreaming best practices across the organisation while enhancing integration and synergy. The “Food and Nutrition Profile (FNP)” project implemented by the Brand and Regulatory Team, Legal Affairs Department, received the gold award at the award ceremony held at the Çamlıca Campus Conference Hall. The first runner-up was Ülker Chocolate’s “Round Albeni” project and second runner-up Pasifik’s “Launch Kit”.
